Looking for a wheelchair or scooter? The good news is that there is a huge range of wheelchairs, scooters and buggies to choose from. The downside is that so much choice can be bewildering. This guide takes you through the various features and options to help you draw up a list of chairs to try. To start, click the headings on the left. For simplicity we use 'chair' to refer to both wheelchairs and scooters where information applies to both.

Wheelchairs for children are not covered in this guide.
Ricability staff have independently measured and collected information on some chairs ; information for others has been supplied by manufacturers, who have been asked to continue to provide it as they launch new chairs or modify existing ones. We are very grateful for their help. However information can get out of date. Double check essential features when you try out any chair you are seriously interested in.
