Professional advice

Independent advice is worth having because it gives you an opportunity to discuss your whole situation, rather than just whether a textphone might be useful. If you get in touch with the organisations described above, they may arrange for you to see a specialist for an assessment. Whoever sees you should be able to give you as much advice and information as you need and should know about what services there may be locally.

In addition your GP is your key to getting help through the NHS. Ask if there is a hearing or other specialist therapist who works locally. They are thin on the ground and there is likely to be a waiting list.

If you want to get advice privately see below. You will have to pay whoever comes to see you, but you should not have to wait long for an appointment. Ask for an estimate.
