A guide to buying a textphone, 2001 (view report contents)
AcknowledgementsThis report is based on research carried out by Derby Disability Equipment Assessment Centre for the Medical Devices Agency. Derby Assistive Technology Evaluation Centre (ATEC) is the new name for Derby Disability Equipment Assessment Centre (DDEAC). Some 120 deaf and hearing-impaired people took part in five group discussions.
They included a wide range of ages and experience in using textphones.
They discussed the equipment they used and general issues such as cost
and the social side of using a textphone. A further 28 people took part
in user trials of a selection of textphones. They included people who
were experienced in using textphones and novices. An occupational therapist
and an ergonomist also carried out an expert assessment of each of these
textphones. A full copy of the study report is available from: Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) The Device Evaluation Service (DES) manages a programme of evaluations
