None of the rooftop hoists are cheap, but they can make you independent. As you would expect, they all add to the height of your car. Check the ‘Clearance travelling’ distance in the summaries to see by how much.
If you need to use the hoists in areas with restricted headroom, the Braun Chair Topper and Gentle Giant Cartop don’t need extra height when hoisting a chair up or down. The summaries give details of the extra height needed by the others.
You need to check the loading limit of your car with its manufacturer to make sure that the combined weight of the hoist, roof rack and wheelchair does not exceed what they recommend.
