Getting a wheelchair into a car (view report contents)

Autochair Up & On - Not tested

A lightweight hoist which can be easily fixed and taken off the car. It does not have a rain cover so the wheelchair is exposed to the weather. Because it is open there is no container to restrict the size of the chair which can be lifted.

How it works

The motor tilts the box on the roof and lowers its hook. You hook on the folded chair by hand and the motor winches it into the box. The chair needed steadying to stop it hitting the car when hanging and it had to be kept vertical or the wheels got caught - easier with practice. Mark 2 has a larger box; easier and you may not need to remove the footplates.
