The research

Over 60 members of Ricability’s panel of disabled people tried out different cars and spent many hours getting in and out of a specially built test ’car’ which could be adjusted to represent the size and shape of different vehicles.

Panel members told us what they thought was important to look for in a new car if it was to meet the needs of disabled people. They all tried getting in and out of the test ‘car’ at many different settings to provide us with information about how much space was needed to suit people with different impairments.

Ricability and Motability are extremely grateful to all of these panel members.

About Motability

Motability is the UK’s leading car scheme for disabled people. It provides affordable, convenient, trouble-free motoring to almost 410,000 disabled customers and their families. Powered wheelchairs and scooters can also be financed using the Motability Scheme.

The Scheme is directed and overseen by Motability, a national charity, which also provides financial assistance to customers, who would otherwise be unable to afford the mobility solution they need. Motability Operations is the company that operates the Motability car schemes, under contract to Motability.
