What measurements are important to me?

The Ricability Panel of disabled people said the 2 most important areas were

Key measurements: getting in and out

Key measurements: getting a wheelchair in

Test drive

Always try any car you are seriously considering to be sure it is right for you. All Motability accredited dealers are happy to arrange this for you, as should car sellers who are not part of the scheme.

When trying out a car, get in and out of it several times and think about how you would manage on a bad day. If you use a wheelchair or mobility aid, check how easy it is to get it in the back, including folding the rear seats. If you are worried about scratching a test car ask the dealer to supply a blanket to cover the paintwork.

For more on choosing a car, see the Ricability report the Ins and Outs of choosing a car.
