Pedals
Some people can use adapted pedals. Pedals can be power assisted to reduce the effort needed to use them or can be made to work with a very small movement. Their size, position and shape can sometimes be altered and they can be extended to bring them nearer.
Floor raiser
If you have small feet a raised pad can be fitted under the pedals. This
Roland Kerr pad is secured to the floor with Velcro and raises your feet
by 50mm. About £20.
Foot rests
Foot rests can be fitted where you need them and can be shaped to suit you. A guard to keep your foot in place can be made if there is any danger of it interfering with the pedals accidentally. From car converters. Most cost from around £60.
Pedal extenders
These Pedal Pals extenders clamp on and can bring the pedals from 50mm
to 150mm nearer. £69 (automatic), £75 (manual). Pedal extenders
can be fitted by anyone who can use a spanner. Avaliable from adaptation
firms £35 -£60/pedal.
Flip up left foot accelerator
Drivers who cannot use their right foot can drive an automatic car if
it has an accelerator fitted on the left side of the brake pedal - around
£300. Make sure that the system has a fail safe design which keeps
the pedal not being used well out of the way.
Organ pedal
For people who cannot reach high pedals.
Pedal guards
A pedal guard stops pedals being pressed accidentally - essential if you cannot control your feet or if you cannot feel if you are touching the pedals. They can be removed easily. Most cost around £80.
