Age Concern
Age Concern provides information and advice for older people and campaigns
for them. It has a wide network of local groups which provide information
and advice and some services (such as insurance). They publish factsheets
on a wide range of issues, including guides to heating, money and housing
and Fight the Freeze: A Guide to Keeping Warm and Healthy.

Corgi (The Council for Registered Gas Installers)
People who install gas equipment have to be registered with Corgi, and
their work has to meet certain safety standards. Contact Corgi to find
a local firm. Corgi also have free leaflets on using gas safely.
Energywatch
Energywatch is the independent gas and electricity consumer watchdog.
They can help with a range of consumer issue about the gas and electricity
industry. They provide information and help resolve complaints.
Information leaflets include how to choose and change supplier, how to
compare prices offered by different companies, and how to use gas and
electricity safely and details of free services offered by energy suppliers.
Heating & Hotwater Information Council
Has information on central heating, provide advice on what to do if your
central heating goes wrong, will help you findan installer and has general
information about saving energy in your home. They have several free information
sheets.
Help the Aged
Help the Aged work with and campaign for older people in many ways. They
provide a series of free clear and free
informative booklets on a wide range of subject including money, housing,
repairs and improvements. One of them, Keeping out the cold, has information
on keeping warm and paying for heat. SeniorLine is their free information
and advice line. It is well informed, confidential and impartial.

Ofgem is the regulator for the gas and electricity industries. Under their
social action plan they have introduced various measures to protect vulnerable
consumers.
TACMA (The Association of Controls Manufacturers)
Have a guide to central heating controls on their website. You can also
browse it to find details of the controls produced by manufacturers who
are members of TACMA.
