Making your kitchen easier to use (view report contents)

What B&Q can do for you

A new kitchen.

B&Q offers a full planning, designing and fitting service. A consultant can visit you in your home and discuss your requirements or you can visit your local showroom. A computer design system can then be used to plan your kitchen - you will be able to see what your new kitchen looks like on screen and change the design to suit you.

Your current kitchen will also need to be properly measured to ensure everything fits well before the units etc. are ordered. For this a B&Q installer will visit your home.

Once a design and the costs have been agreed B&Q installers will fit your new kitchen. The B&Q installers are fully qualified and can also carry out electrical work and are CORGI registered for gas installations. They can also do any plumbing, flooring and tiling work that is needed. If you have bought some accessories elsewhere e.g. 'pull-out-and-down wire rack', the installers will also fit these for you. In store B&Q want disabled and elderly people to be able to shop with confidence in their stores, secure in the knowledge that they will be able to access goods and services easily, find solutions to meet their needs and be treated with respect by store staff.

To achieve this B&Q have been listening to disabled and elderly customers and employees. The changes that you will start to see include wider checkouts, portable induction loops, clearer signs and door signs which are in Braille. Information is also available in alternative media format and the in-store videos have been signed and carry sub text. The bigger stores also provide electric wheelchairs and rest points. Car parking for disabled people is also being improved. The most significant improvement is that all staff will have received disability awareness training to ensure a high level of customer service.

If you have any comments or recommendations for B&Q give them a call or write to their Diversity Manager.
