Choosing an electric kettle that’s easy to use (view report contents)

Introduction

You may think that because many kettles look alike there is little difference between them. In fact they vary a lot. As you will probably use a kettle more often than any other appliance it's particularly important that yours is easy to use and safe.

Our original report was published in September 1997 and covered 30 kettles. Since then many have been discontinued or redesigned. Our buying guide is based on those which are still in the shops. But if you are thinking about a kettle that we haven't tested, this report also gives you general advice and a checklist of things to look for.

For each kettle we tested there is a summary of the test results plus a picture. If you have poor grip or poor sight there are extra tips.
