Q. How do I find a wheelchair accessible hotel? I have difficulty getting around, how do I find out about travel services?

Holidays and travel

Older people and disabled people should expect to be able to have as wide a choice of holiday as anyone else. But you may need to make special travel and accommodation arrangements.

Holiday Care provides information on all kinds of holidays in the UK (and 40 other destinations) for people who have special requirements because of age, disability, or personal or family circumstances. Tel: 0845 124 9971 Textphone: 0845 124 9976

RADAR - publish a guide called Holidays in Britain and Ireland: a guide for disabled people Tel: 020 7250 3222 Textphone: 020 7250 4119.

Clubs

Some charities and retirement associations run social clubs and organise outings and events for their members.

PHAB brings disabled and non-disabled people together. PHAB England has about 300 affiliated clubs: 020 8667 9443. FABB Scotland 0131 475 2313, PHAB Northern Ireland 028 9075 8912

Most people join clubs because they have a particular interest. Most are keen to help people who need special help to participate. Libraries have lists of local clubs and organisations.
