Q. I find it difficult to use my 'phone. Where can I one that suits me? What else is there to help?

Telephones

Phones are vital for most of us. If you have a disability and can’t afford one, your local authority may be able to help with the cost of installation or any special equipment.

BT have a guide for disabled people for information on equipment and services and if you have problems with standard equipment, Communications Solutions available from freephone 0800 800 150, or free textphone 18001 0800 800 150 (available in print, large print, Braille and on audio tape).

BT TextDirect
TextDirect allows texphone users with different types of textphone to communicate directly. It also allows textphone users and non-textphone users to communicate more easily by automatically bringing an operator to relay messages if necessary. To use BT TextDirect dial 18001 from a texphone and 18002 from an ordinary phone.
For more details see contact RNID Typetalk .

Information about Telephones is a free information sheet (Sheet 22) available from Age Concern Information Line freephone 0800 00 99 66.

Stay in touch - a guide for older or disabled to telephone equipment and services and and Calling for help - a guide to community alarms - from Ricability.
