Sterilisers types, pros & cons

Sterilising your baby’s feeding equipment stops the growth of harmful bacteria that can be left behind if it is only washed. All parts of the bottles need to be thoroughly washed then sterilised after each use.

You can sterilise feeding equipment by heating it in a pan of boiling water for ten minutes. But if you are bottle feeding you will probably find it easier and safer to use a steriliser. There are three methods: cold water (or chemical), microwave and steam. See the summary section for all the sterilisers we assessed.
