Forward-facing

Forward-facing pushchairForward-facing pushchair

Around £50 to £200.

Generally wider and more cushioned than a buggy but these still have a forward-facing seat. Reclining seats are more common and some can be adjusted to lie flat so can be used from birth. Most models fold flat to a square shape, others have an umbrella fold. Seat covers, hoods and rain cover are included with pricier models, and sold as extras with others.

Pros

  • more solid than a buggy so the baby is more enclosed and a parent gets more support when pushing
  • fully reclining models can be used from birth
  • some models have adjustable height handles
  • more compact than two- and three-in-ones for parking, transporting and storing
  • many models have under-seat shopping carriers
  • cheaper to buy than two- and three-in-ones.

Cons

  • the baby cannot face you
  • more risk of your baby being removed if you are visually impaired and pull the pushchair
  • baby may be more exposed than in a two- or three-in-one
  • less compact than a buggy for carrying and storing
