Types of pushchair
All terrain

Around £100 to £400.
These are chunky looking pushchairs with large wheels that should cope
with rough ground. Most are three-wheeled but there are four-wheelers
too. They generally have a fully reclining seat so can be used from birth.
There are a few double all terrain pushchairs and three-in-one and travel
systems, with a lift-off carrycot or car seat. Most fold downwards and
the wheels can be removed. Seat covers and a removable hood are included,
sometimes with a rain cover
Pros
- as the name suggests, they can be used over rough ground
because of their large wheels
- the front wheel or wheels swivel on most models and
can be locked
- most have reclining backrests
- most have a hand-operated slow-down device as well
as a foot brake
- height adjustable handles
- some are very light to push
- the styling is modern looking
Cons
- babies are more exposed so not so cosy
- with most the baby is forward facing only
- long to manoeuvre
- difficult to keep three-wheelers balanced when negotiating
kerbs – whether pushing or pulling
- any hand-operated slow-down device must not be used
alone for parking
- their pneumatic wheels need pumping up and can puncture
- they do not fold small for carrying, transporting or
storing
- you may need to take the wheels off to load them in
your car boot
