About this report
Bladder and bowel control - continence - is one of the first skills we learn as children, and then take for granted. Yet at least one in four of us will have problems with our bladder or bowel at some time. The good news is that by getting advice from your doctor or a specialist, you may be completely cured by simple treatments, or at least be given help to manage your condition effectively.
This guide is mainly about products - that can be part of a treatment, or can control leaks so that you can carry on with everyday life confidently. It tells you briefly about the main types of incontinence, their causes and treatments and there's information on how the bladder and bowel work. We also give details of where to go for more help and advice.
This report has been researched and written by Promocon and Ricability, however contact details have been updated where possible.
Promocon promotes continence through product awareness. It is a joint initiative of the Disabled Living Centres Council, led by disabled Living Manchester, the association for Continence Advice (ERIC) and Incontact. Promocon and Ricability are grateful to the Department of Health and Disabled Living Manchester for sponsoring this report.
