Buying from a private person
If you buy from a private person you have fewer rights - you will be able to claim only if the product doesn't match its description, if it was misrepresented or if the seller didn't own it. Some firms pretend to be private sellers to avoid their legal responsibilities towards customers. This is a criminal offence. If you suspect this has happened to you, complain to Consumer Direct.
