Finding an easy to use iron
Most irons look pretty similar. But small differences can make one iron easier to use than another. Some irons are considerably heavier than others, specially when filled with water. Other things that are likely to make a difference are the thickness and shape of the handle, the position, shape and size of the controls, and the clearness of any markings and labelling.

Filling with water
Is the filling hole large enough? very important if you have unsteady hands no fiddly actions required to fill iron
Can the iron be filled using one-hand? Some have to be held at an angle Is the water level easily visible? (look for clear, large see-through areas)
Is it easy to empty the iron? Some have to be held at awkward angles
Temperature setting
Is the control easy to reach? Is there enough space for your hand think about how much space you need if you have swollen joints from time to time
Does the control protrude? Recessed controls restrict finger space Is it large enough and shaped to give you a good grip? Its surface should be non-slip too
Can it be moved without needing a lot of force?
Are the setting positions well spaced? Cramped settings need precise finger control
Can you set the control by touch?
Could the control be moved by mistake? When you are holding the iron, your fingers should not touch the control
Do labels and marks colour contrast with their background? Are labels and marks large enough to see easily?
